The Brightest Flashlight Ever

flash torchWant to know what is the brightest flashlight ever? Here’s the response. It is the light on the very top of the pyramid in Las Vegas. It’s so bright that you can see the column all the way from the L.A. airport in the next state over.

So the next question is this. Will it fit in your survival kit?

There are various elements to consider when buying a survival flashlight. But luminosity is on top of the list. So here are four elements to determine what the brightest flashlight is.

Torch Luminosity: Lumens Explained

The brightness of your torch is measured in lumens. And a lumen is a standard measurement of light. So imagine you are holding a birthday candle. One lumen is one candle. The more candles you hold, the more lumens you’ll shine onto the board and also the brighter the light gets.

As I share the different flashlights, I will always be referring to their lumens measurement.

Flashlight Performance

Now let us look at the operation. If you’re worried about price then check out the brightest LED for under $100. But above that price, the Titanium Innovations L70 emits 7,000 lumens. The L70 has a 70-watt outflow bulb that emits a beam of light for many miles. It’s not cheap. The cost is $1,000.

But wait! Here’s the real brightest flashlight in the whole world ever. The 48 XML U2 LED torch with 32,000 lumens. This thing is so bright that it produces enough heat to demand its own cooling system.

As a matter of fact, you can use a 4,000 lumens flashlight to light a fire, just by aiming it at a paper. Who wants matches, in case you consider it? What do you want a fire starting kit for? During a rain storm, merely aim this light at some soaking wet wood and dry it out!

Flashlight Bulb Comparisons

Another way of comparing the brightest torch is by bulb type. The enormous differences between them are the output signal of light and the durability of the lightbulb rated in lifetime hours. For instance LED lights commonly last 100,000 hours whereas a Xenon lasts about 20,000 hours. Let us discuss a little about each.

XML Flashlight

The victor in the XML department goes to 4Sevens. Its made out of 18 cree lights.

What is good about this is that you can tie many of these XM18’s together to make a really bright light. Also, you can add shims in the connections and produce a parabola shaped beam from the interconnected units. High settings of 15,000 lumens will run for 1-1/2 hours. This is probably the greatest powered handheld commercial torch accessible.

Incandescent Light

I am not even going to make an effort to compare incandescent light bulbs with LED’s, HIDs and Xenon lights.

LED Flashlights

LED lamps are brighter than incandescent light bulbs. LED’s also last more. A single AA battery flashlight uses 2-10 times less electricity and it’s more efficient than a traditional flashlight.

High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Lamps

It’s a kind of arc lamp made from tungsten electrodes in a quartz tube. This tube is full of gas and metal salts. The salts heat and evaporate as the arc starts. This results in forming a plasma which raises the light intensity and reduces the electricity consumption. What is exceptional about HID lamps is that they are more efficient than incandescent or fluorescent bulbs.

Xenon Lights

In a xenon bulb, the gas itself produces the light instead of a metal filament. The emission of light from a xenon lamp is brighter than any other different kind of lamp. Also, it uses less energy. Because there’s no corrosion caused from a heated filament, xenon bulbs have a very long life.

Conclusion

So there you have it! A bunch of the brightest torches that are top in the world. Some are homemade. Some are in the prototype phases. And some are products which are sold on the market.
